Mission Viejo, Orange County
Mission Viejo was planned as a single community on the O'Neill family ranch, and the first families moved in during 1966. The developers laid out streets, schools and shopping centers in advance and added Lake Mission Viejo, a man-made lake of about 125 acres, in the 1970s. It became a city in 1988.
